Been a While

Well, it's been awhile since I've blogged. I've been busy at work getting ready for a new exhibit and just trying to keep up with processing donations of artifacts.

The troupe is getting ready for another show and we've been having lots of dress rehearsals. So I think this will be a really good show.

On a sad note, my sister is having problems with her blog. She started it on Wednesday and when she went to sign in on Thursday she couldn't sign in. She thought that perhaps she wrote her username and password down wrong, so she followed that process and they said they sent an email. But it had been an hour and she hadn't gotten an email. Blogger's instructions were to contact them if you hadn't received the email, so she tries to do that, but you have to sign in to do that, which she couldn't do. Long story short, she hasn't been able to blog again and I'm sad for her. Sigh.

Yeah for my Sister

So my sister emailed me tonight and told me she started a blog. I'm so excited for her and excited for me as well, as I think this will help us stay in touch better since we live like 4 hours apart. Plus she is a pretty good writer and I miss reading her stuff (even if its just boring life stuff, although I think she'll have some more thoughtful posts too).

This all started because she got behind reading my blog and was playing catch up and emailing me a ton of questions about stuff I'd blogged about. It was rather funny. Anyway I have some research I need to do for the night and I'd like to try to get to bed early.

Not Much Going On

Well things have been pretty calm. We have some dress rehearsals coming up and a show in early May. I'm working on updating the website with a new photo gallery, articles, and reviews.

At work we are about to put the podcast on the website and then attention is going into the IOOF exhibit. So things are busy all around but not terribly stressful. I hope it stays that way.

Picking a Book

Well I've finally picked a new book to read. Well I've actually read it before when I checked it out of the library. I liked it so much that I decided that I had to have my own copy. Plus this time I'm reading it to write a review of it for my troupe website.

Rebecca leaves in the morning and it's been really nice having her visit, but it's probably best that she leaves now as I have to go back to work and if she were here I'd constantly be thinking that if I weren't at work we could be out having fun together.

Other than that works going to start getting busy as we are getting into the swing of a pretty big exhibit that I've been asked to co-curate. It's a fun topic though and I've already been doing a lot of research on it, so I'm hoping that it won't be too stressful.

1st Post Day

Well today is the first day after the end of the blog-a-thon. I have to say I have a little sadness now that I'm entering my first post post-a-thon.

I've been enjoying the visit from my friend, Rebecca, who know lives in the DC area. Today a group of us who all lived in the same dorm in college got together for a cookout and then went kite flying in the field near our house. Then a few of us tried to get over our tiredness and went out to the movies.

We saw Inside Man and it was ok. Mostly I wasn't in the mood for that type of movies tonight. I was really tried so I didn't want a movie where I need to go any thinking. I probably should have gone to see The Wild instead.

Lance Is Just a Big Fat Winner

Well, Ryan and I lost the blog-a-thon we had going on with our friend Lance. We had a wedding to go to this evening and an out-of-town friend that we hadn't seen since Christmas time was staying with us for the wedding.

We all got home and started talking and catching up on things and the next thing we knew it was 12:15 and we hadn't blogged. I think I'm probably more upset about this than Ryan is. As a non-computer, new to blogging person I had delusions of grandeur that I'd be able to beat these two guys at their own game, so to speak. But alas, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I suggested that Ryan and I could continue to see who would win second, but he seemed non-plussed about that. We then had a conversation about blogging and if it's better to post everyday and not really have anything big to say or if it's better to just wait until you have a really solid topic to post about.

To some extent I feel, for me right now at this time in my life, it is more important to continue to write a little everyday so that I can get in the habit of writing and hope that it will make me a better writer in the long run. I do at some point plan to cut back on my blogging and only post entries when I have really good topics or something interesting to say. But I just don't feel that time is now.

Time to Rest

Well I'm taking tonight to catch up on my sleep. So I'm going to start soon. I've caught up on the 2 podcasts I was working on for the weekend. I'm now just trying to decide what book to start reading and I'm having a hard time picking a have a number of mysteries my mother-in-law lent me, then I have a few fiction novels, and a couple of ethnographic/history books on dance that I'm thinking about reading as well.

Maybe I'll decide tomorrow.

The Weekend is Coming

Thank goodness the weekend is coming. I'm soo tired and ready for a quiet weekend to catch up on my rest. However, We have a wedding to go to on Saturday, but that's not bad. We have a group cookout that we are hosting on Sunday with frisbee playing and kite flying. So no rest until Monday or so.

Blast Off

Ding dong the program’s done!! I’m exhausted. It went ok. I feel that the audience didn’t get a lot of my jokes, but to each his own. I’m glad to have it done, because there are so many other things that I’ve been wanting to do.

I have a huge stack of books that I’m behind on reading. There are at least 2-3 books that I’d liked to write reviews of for the troupe website (I've already read them once so it shouldn't take long). I also need to get back to the props article for the website and there are a few other articles that I’d like to write for the website as well. I think I’m looking forward to getting into these things because there is no deadline for any of this stuff so I can take my time and have fun with it. And when it stops being fun I can put it aside until I’m in the mood for it again.

I’m also trying to finish some choreography for a group routine and that does have a deadline for this summer when I have to teach it to the other teachers, but it should be fun and not stressful.

Anyway, other nifty stuff that’s going on is I’m almost caught up on 2 podcasts that I’ve subscribed to. One is the “Firefly Talk” podcast devoted to the Whedon sci-fi show and Serenity movie. It’s really awesome. The other is a podcast called “Skepticality” which tries to promote inquiring minds on historical, political, and scientific stuff. I have one episode left for both of them before I’m caught up.

A good friend is coming in from out of town this weekend so that should be fun, but right now I'm just too tired to think anymore so I'm taking myself to bed.

One

Well tomorrow is it. It's 11:37 pm and I'm still working on the last part of my presentation, the music, which of course is probably the most important part. I'm smart like that to wait until now to work on this aspect. Yuuup.

Monday, April 17, 2006

Two

Nothing's new, I've been working on my presentation all day and now I'm finally going to take a shower.

Sunday, April 16, 2006

Three

Well with Ryan's help I was able to get most of a large portion of my presentation figured out today. So I have most of tomorrow and Tuesday to get the rest worked out. Whew.

Saturday, April 15, 2006

Four

Well, I slept in a little late today and then the day got worse from there. We had to rush around to get stuff from Lowe's in order to do some yard work and I don't think we got it all. I thought we were going to get more work done in the front yard, but the back yard was where we got most of the progress.

Then I had a meeting to go to in order to discuss a performance opportunity for the troupe and it took forever!

Needless to say I felt the day was a total waste and I didn't get any work done on my presentation today.

5 Days and Counting

The days are closing in to my presentation. Luckily, though, I feel like I am also closing in on being done with my presentation. Yippie skippie. Off to get it a little closer still.

Six Days

Yup, six days till my presentation. I think I'm about half through it and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish all of it in time. Especially if I take much longer to blog.

Lots of Progress

I'm making a lot of headway on my presentation. I've been writing my notes as to what I want to say on certain sections and then making my "slides" to go with them. But I still have a lot to work on and I better get my rear in gear.

Squeezing in a Blog

I've been taking my laptop to work these past few days so I could work on my presentation. Today it has again come in very handy. Ryan was going to be late picking me up from work so off I went to the local coffeehouse with my laptop. So I'm getting my blogging done earlier tonight than I usually do as I have this small space of time to work on this. Which is good because I'll have the whole rest of the night to work on my presentation.

I think the presentation is really coming along now. I feel I got some really good work done on it today and I'm feeling a lot better about it today than I have in the past few weeks. Although I am still a little worried about getting some points fleshed out to my satisfaction. To which end I'm finishing up this post and getting back to polishing stuff up.

Things Piling Up

Why is it that when you have something important that you want to give your full attention to all other manner of things pop up to distract you?

My presentation is a little over a week away and I have an out of town guest coming, a wedding to attend, a dinner party to plan, dance classes to teach, regular job duties to do, and a ton of housework that is piling up. I'm trying not to get stressed and to really concentrate on what needs to be accomplished one day at a time, but sometimes it just feels very overwhelming.

Amidst all this I had to give an interview to a local newspaper about my presentation. I know the publicity will be great for the museum, but it also makes me really nervous that more people might show up now because of it.

Sunny Day

Since it was a nice sunny day, Ryan decided that he wanted to go hiking and he wanted to take Magaidh with us. So we loaded up the dog, loaded up the supplies, and headed out. I proceeded to get car sick and the dog did not. She never gets sick in the car thank goodness.

We arrive and the trail head and I feel like crap, but Ryan and Magaidh are raring to go, so off we go. I think the two of them had a blast and really enjoyed themselves, which I'm happy for. I'm now thoroughly exhausted and very sleepy. So much so that Ryan suggested that I go ahead and go to bed. Which I almost did before blogging. I think he was just trying to get me to go to bed without blogging so I would finally be out of the blogging contest between him and Lance.

Long Day

I had to work today and the day was long. Special tours, helping researchers, and crying kids all went on at the museum today. Their was so much activity that I wasn't able to get a lot of work done on my presentation.

Ryan and I then had dinner at the new Japanese place in the mall. I can now safely recommend that you should not eat at a Japanese place in the mall. The rice and vegetables where undercooked. The meat wasn't hot enough and also didn't have enough flavoring. So the lesson is to avoid Japanese mall places.

Cupping Causes Bruises

So I went to the acupuncturist again and I think it went pretty well. This time she tried some cupping on my back. This entails suctioning a cup to one's back and moving it around the back on top of pressure points. Its suppose to promote the immune system.

It didn't hurt while she was doing it, but it did cause some bruising and now my back is a little tender.

Tired

The weather is reeking havoc on my joints. It's making it hard to concentrate on things like my presentation, choreography, practicing, and housework. Sigh, I go to the acupuncturist tomorrow though, so maybe it will get better.

Crunch Time

Well it's coming up on crunch time for my presentation. I'm busy writing the "script" creating the slides and eliminating photos/points from the presentation for length.

I finished my current book "Queen of the Slayers" and I'm going to ask Ryan to hide all my other books so I'm not tempted to start reading something new when I need to be concentrating on my presentation. Maybe he'll take over the housework too.

Rough Day at Work

Well this entire morning was spent finishing cleaning on the waffle iron that was donated to us at the end of last year. I've been working on cleaning it, on and off, for about a month and I am glad that its clean and re-assembled and now stored.

This afternoon was spent with a 5th grade girls GTE class working on the exhibit that they are doing on WWII homefront efforts. They exhausted me. So many creative ideas bouncing all around, with very little focus, and then towards the end of the afternoon they started having little tiffs. Thank goodness the tiffs only started about 10 minutes before they left, so they didn't get any worse than they did.

Housework Day

Today I tried to get caught up on my housework. I got some laundry done and dishes. I was also able to get the stuff packed that we decided to get rid of this weekend. So the garage is looking even better.

Tonight I've been keeping it cool. Just enjoying all the TV shows coming back from hiatus. Thank goodness there's new stuff on TV again.

Lazy Day

We've had a lazy day. I did further on cleaning up stuff in the bedroom, doing some laundry, and getting Ryan to go through the stuff out of the linen closet, but that was about it. No work in the yard or packing stuff up for charity. Somehow we just couldn't get it together to get anything done.

We did take Magaidh to the park which was nice since it was a sun-shiny day and that was the only time we stepped out of the house. This even we tried to watch another dvd of Gilmore Girls that we rented and the stupid disc was messed up. It was all scratched to heck so we'll be going back and asking for a refund when we return it.

Slow Day

Well Spring cleaning attempts continue. I managed to get Ryan to go through some of the items that we needed to sort through to get rid of. I'm hoping that tomorrow I will be able to get him to go through the large pile of linens in the hallway.

On the good news front I just heard that one of my favorite shows, Bones, has been renewed for another season. Ryan and I continue to get Ryan caught up on back seasons of Gilmore Girls, a very witty show that you should check out if you are unfamiliar with it. We've also rented the first disc of the first season of the new Battlestar Galactica. I have fond memories of the original one from when I was a child, but I'm sure this show is nothing like it.
